Too Much, Too Soon
Too Much, Too Soon
Avoid This Common Mistake With Your Health
A new year can bring the desire to change your health. Or maybe you've just had enough and feel the need to change.
Whatever the reason, good luck, because it's not an easy process.
But you can make it easy by avoiding this common mistake.
When many people want to make a change, they really make a change.
As in they try to change everything.
They start training every day. They start the new latest diet. They try to sleep 8 hours a day. They stretch 10 minutes daily. They focus on water intake, meditation, journalling, the list goes on.
And for a very few people, this change works.
But for most people this doesn't work. It's overwhelming and leads to more frustration and eventually quitting.
But there's something to remember when it comes to your health and fitness - it's always a problem.
What I mean is, once you get healthy, you still need to maintain it, which requires just as much effort.
So it's going to take some time. And so should you.
A better process would be to change one thing at a time.
So for this month, your sole focus may be to train 2 to 3 times a week. That's it. No extra focus on diet or anything, just getting consistent with training.
And next month your focus could be on your diet - maybe making sure you're eating a really healthy breakfast and lunch, or just sticking to eating lower calories, by 15% for the month.
Now, instead of trying to change everything in one month, you have laid a foundation:
Month 1: Training 2 to 3 times a week
Month 2: Training 2 to 3 times a week + eating 15% lower calories
Month 3: Training 2 to 3 times a week + eating 15% lower calories + 2 liters water a day and so on
Now what would that look like after 12 months?
You'd likely be healthier. You'd likely be on top of everything a lot more easily. And most importantly, you'd likely continue making progress.
Of course, there will still be some speed bumps along the way, but at least you're building gradually over time.
And it's going to allow you to develop habits which will stay for the long term. Habits which can then be further improved and help you feel better everyday.
Until next time,
Marco
