How to Develop More Confidence

If only you had more confidence to talk to that boy or girl.

If only you could put your hand up in the meeting today.

If only you could do the things you always wanted to do.

Confidence makes a big difference in our lives.

When we have it, we feel almost invincible.

We walk with a strut like our favourite song is playing and we're in a movie.

Have you ever had those times in your life when you felt untouchable?

On the other side of the coin, have you ever had those times in your life when you felt like you had no confidence at all? How do you honestly feel right now?

Why can't we always feel like confident?

The fake it till you make it maxim definitely helps. But feeling like a fraud can be taxing.

The better way is to actually have confidence.

Not the confidence many people have from an inflated sense of ego.

The confidence that we earn through hard work, wins, losses and everything in between.

The question is: how do we earn that confidence?

Build Your Body, Build Your Mind, Build Your Confidence

I believe some form of training is the key to earning that confidence.

I've seen over and over people's mindset completely change from a consistent, disciplined attempt to change their body.

And it's more than just the feeling they get from looking better with and without clothes on (although that makes a big difference as well).

Unfortunately, much of training is about looking good. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just misses an opportunity to improve in other areas of our life as well.

But when training focuses on building body and mind, great things tend to happen.

Often, struggle is forced upon us. Through work, through people in our life, through random incidents.

And they all take their toll on us. They're things we have to deal with. And we do so begrudgingly.

But training is our choice to improve n a way that helps us. And when we overcome that struggle to achieve things we were often unsure we could achieve, our confidence grows.

Imagine developing a consistency and discipline to turn up to training, even when you don't feel like it, and choosing to struggle, all in the knowledge that in the long term this will help. Imagine taking the hard road and coming out the other side every time a better person.

Imagine what that does for your confidence...

Take one of my clients Kellie for instance. It's not like she lacked confidence before, but now her focus is on improving herself and not slipping back to old ways. She has a formula on how to do that as well. She has an outlet she has chosen, and now she understands that outlet is her way to achieve the life she wants.

What's interesting about Kellie is that only recently she has had a lot of stress in her life and missed training, and after only one session back, you could see her posture, mood and mindset change. Walking out of the gym feeling confident has knock on effects for the rest of your life.

Or take another one of my other clients Alaine. She now owns two businesses, trains with her teenage son, helps look after her granddaughter and almost never misses training. Oh, and she is also looking to start her psychology degree. She oozes confidence and determination.
