How to Make Your 9 to 5 More Enjoyable 

The alarm goes off. It’s 7:00am and your room is still dark.

You felt like you went to bed early, but for some reason you’re still tired.

You even feel more tired than usual.

Laying there, you start to think about the day ahead, and all the shit you have to deal with at work.

Already you’re lacking motivation.

Already you’re dreading the day.

I know you’re feeling this way, because I’ve been there too.

You want to get excited for your job, you want to be full of energy.

It’s not like you hate your job, even though there are probably more exciting things you could do with your day.

In fact, the people are great and the work can be rewarding.

But it’s just difficult to get motivated to do it everyday.

A sense of dread just washes over you every time that alarm goes off.

Getting out of bed is a battle each day.

 

That feeling of not enjoying our job is all too common.

That initial excitement of a new job wears off after a while and you start to get into that grind. The stress starts to add up, slowly draining that enthusiasm of a new challenge.

For a long time during my engineering career I felt this too.

I appreciated my job. It paid well and I tried my best.

But it didn’t inspire me….

 

The problem for me for many years, was that I did nothing to get that enjoyment at work back.

I did nothing in my career. I did nothing day to day.

Yet I was hoping something was going to change.

Are you feeling the same? Hoping things will change, but doing nothing to make it so?

 

Accepting that work is going to be shit is actually the easy way out.

Accepting work won’t always be fun, or accepting it will be hard sometimes, yeah that’s fair enough.

But getting the most out of work is on you.

We can’t let our environments dictate how we feel day in, day out so easily….
 

I remember waking up each day and moving begrudgingly from the bed, to the shower, to my breakfast, and finally into my car and off to work.

But one day I decided I wanted to look the best I had ever looked, so I hired a coach at more than $320 a month.

What he gave was a secret that not only helped me to burn fat and look great, but helped me gain a new perspective on work and my days.

The simplicity of it almost annoying.

But starting my days right was probably the catalyst for me doing what I do today.

Yep, me nailing the first 30 minutes of my day had that big an impact on my days and eventually my mindset.

The secret?

 

The first thing you do (apart from going to the toilet) is to MOVE.

Not just move from your bedroom to the shower to the kitchen table.

No, I mean really move.

By putting exercise as the first thing you do, by getting that heart pumping and the blood flowing, by getting that slight perspiration, you can take your day from tired to invigorated!

Before you start to grumble and think you need to have your gym gear on at 4:30am in the morning, let me tell you that this exercise takes 10-15 minutes and requires no equipment, and can be done in the comfort of your own home.

How can training for 10 to 15 minutes when you wake up make that big a difference?

Well I’m sure you’ve exercised or played sport.

Think back to that time, specifically right after you finished your exercise.

Did you feel tired?

Sure you may have been tired as in “I’m out of breath” kind of tired.

But did you want to go for a sleep?

If you’re like me and pretty much every other person in the world, when you finish exercise, you almost feel like you have more energy.

Like you want to go kick down a door and take on life face first at 100 kilometres an hour.

And this short, simple workout my coach was getting me to do was changing my days in a big way.

 

No more was I tired and lacking motivation for my work day.

Quite the opposite.

I was pumped for it, ready to walk into work and give it my all.

Now…

Imagine if you woke up day after day, feeling like this…

And did it enough times that all of a sudden all your days, weeks and months were full of energy.

Less stress from work, more enthusiasm, better results.

All from moving straight away in the morning...
