An Infinite Amount of Reassurance

An Infinite Amount of Reassurance

Don’t Do It for the Compliments

There's nothing better than being told we're doing great at something, or getting a compliment.

It might only seem like a small comment, but it can change our mindset instantly.

It can lift us up and keep us going.

And, more importantly, it's addictive.

No matter what we're doing, that reassurance feels amazing.

But the problem with reassurance, is the feeling goes away.

We go back to how we felt.

Maybe struggling, maybe grinding away just to get by.

And so while the reassurance feels good and makes a difference, we need more again and again.

And it gets to the point we need an infinite amount of reassurance.

We're not going to get it though.

We need to learn to go without it.

We need to keep our own mindset on track, so we don't need it from someone else.

Because as soon as we need that external validation, we're tied to other people's opinions and thoughts.

It's better instead to just focus on the process.

Focus on the practice of turning up over and over and doing the work.

It's not always going to be brilliant, but that's the point.

It's a practice.

And from that we can take comfort knowing that we showed up and did the work.

And we kept our streak going of showing up and doing the work.

If we get some reassurance along the way, it's a bonus.

But it's not necessary, and too much is actually bad for us.

Instead, we create our own reassurance, so then we never have to rely on others to boost us up.

Until next time,

Marco
