What Is Your Work Environment Like?

Environment can play a big part in our health; if you work in an office, you might know what I mean.

From my days working in the office, there are 2 things which tend to happen in offices:

  • People celebrate birthdays or some form of success by having cakes or some kind of unhealthy food.

  • There are vending machines or charity boxes, both mostly filled with unhealthy food (unhealthy food does tend to store better after all).

When you've been sitting for long periods of time looking at a screen while doing mentally demanding work, a hit of hunger usually leads to choosing these options without regard for the negative consequences. Indeed, often they are the only option.

Would you still seek unhealthy food if it wasn't easily attainable? Possibly, but the extra effort to get that food at least makes it less appealing.

And knowing your environment, you would be more likely to plan by bringing healthier food; there's a good chance you'd make that decision at a time you're less fatigued or more relaxed.

This helps with awareness at least, but what if you can't change your environment? As mentioned, planning is the key. If you can prepare healthy food the night before or in the morning before you leave for work, you'll at least have an option and hopefully be hesitant to waste that food.

But know as long as that food is available, there's always an option you'll choose to eat it.
