A Bit Like the Day Before

Too Much Variety is Limiting Your Training Results

Have you ever met someone who always needs to be doing something new all the time?

It's like they get bored easily.

Variety keeps their life exciting, so it seems.

Yet, these people never really commit to anything long enough to get good at it or feel the full benefit from it.

These are the people who don't get results from their training.

Training, and the health and fitness space generally, has changed a lot in the last 10 years.

There really were only a few types of training styles, and most towns only had a few gyms.

Now there's been a boom in both.

It's great for the industry and the consumer, but like too much information in any area of your life, it can get confusing.

And this confusion is brought about by too much variety.

For 14 years I've been training.

For 5 of those years I've been training clients.

And the truth is, variety is overrated.

For best results from your training, you have to do the same, slightly boring things over and over.

I understand one of the main reasons for variety.

It's keeps things interesting, which will keep you coming back and being consistent.

But it rarely gets results, and nothing ruins yours interest like a lack of results.

There are people who care little for the results.

For them, it's about having fun and feeling good, and if this is you, keep doing the type of training that has a lot of variety.

But if you're trying to get results in some way with your health and fitness, it's more likely you'll get results doing the same few exercises, slightly modified, over and over again.

Is it boring?

It can be a little.

For myself and clients, there's a new program each month, so the boredom never quite sets in.

But I'm also not inventing new exercises or scouring the internet for the craziest new equipment and trend.

Instead it's small modifications to exercises that get results, and repeating.

Again, if the crazy exercises, loud music and endless circuits works for you and keeps you interested, keep doing it.

But if it's results you seek, do less.

Until next time,

Marco
