Starting is the Hardest Part
"Dude, suckin' at somethin' is the first step towards being sorta good at something" ~ Jake the Dog, Adventure Time.
For a first here on the blog and in my writing, I'm quoting Adventure Time, a show that I swear either the creators were on drugs when they wrote it, or you have to be on drugs for it to make sense.
And yet, from it comes an absolute beautiful line about starting.
Starting anything we really want.
Starting something difficult.
Starting something we should start.
To bring it back to the main point of this blog, starting your training and fitness.
I remember at the start.
It was hard.
It was a shock to the system.
So much so, that I sometimes needed to take naps afterwards, and generally had to sleep more.
We also didn't really know what we were doing.
My younger brother and I just looked at other people training and copied them.
Not the best idea, and I wouldn't recommend that to you, but it was a start.
And the truth is, we sucked at it at the start.
We sucked at it for a long time.
But we kept going, because it was something we really wanted.
And also because we understood it would take us time to learn and improve.
This is what you need to keep in mind as you begin, especially if you haven't trained before or for a very long time.
Everything seems odd and foreign.
Simple movements make you feel uncoordinated.
You won't pick up these movements as quickly as you want.
You'll feel sore and a little frustrated.
You'll compare yourself to others who have had time to learn and improve, and are much further down the road.
And you'll suck at it for a good amount of time.
But that's also the first step to getting kinda good at something.
And your health is something pretty good to get good at.
