Feeling Incompetent
Feeling Incompetent
It’s Okay to Not Know What to Do
If you're starting training for the first time, or the first time in a long time, there's a good chance you're going to feel incompetent.
In fact, whenever we start something new, it's a pretty standard feeling.
And it's actually a feeling we should be chasing.
Of course you might feel incompetent.
You're likely starting your training at a place where everyone looks to know exactly what they're doing.
And this could make your incompetence even more pronounced.
Plus there's the feeling itself.
Movements seem foreign.
Things feel harder than they should.
And if you've chosen a coach, which I hope you have, they'll look to do it easy in comparison, and explain it so easily.
But don't fear.
Because what you're feeling is exactly what you should be.
A new environment, doing something you've chosen, which will improve your life in the short and long term.
Willing to feel incompetent for that is a sigh a bravery.
A reminder that we should try and feel it all the time.
Because if we're not, we might have fallen into complacency.
And area where nothing really grows or improves.
So embrace the incompetence.
Be proud you're feeling it.
And accept it as part of the journey, with the full knowledge that if you stick to it, it won't be long before that feeling fades and is replaced by confidence.
Until next time,
Marco
