Where Do You Put the Tired?
Where Do You Put the Tired?
Consistent Even When You Don't Feel Like It
In his fantastic book The Practice, Seth Godin discusses how people doing marathons need to figure out why they put the tired.
Because in fact, for the "average" person doing a marathon, getting through that phase where they feel tired is the hardest part.
Getting through that phase where they feel tired in training, from early mornings, is the hardest part.
And of course, a marathon for most of the people competing isn't about winning, it's about finishing.
The same question can be asked when it comes to our own health and fitness.
Turning up each day or session, can get tiring.
And for a lot of people they just can't maintain that long enough to get the results they want.
The sessions themselves are tiring, and it's much easier to quit than finish it.
But unless you want to become one of the elite health professionals (or an elite marathon runner) what you need to do is work out where you put the tired.
Because it's not about winning anything.
There's no need to compare yourself to the best, because you're not willing to do the work required to be the best - which is normal and fine.
It's just about slowly but surely working to get a result you want.
So you also need to figure out where to put the tired.
To show up, even when you don't feel like it.
And to put in your best effort for that day.
Because more than one big effort to try to get a results, it's about consistency.
And consistency can be tiring.
But so can starting and stopping over and over again, telling yourself the same story you're not good enough.
Find out where you can put the tired, and you'll find your results.
Until next time,
Marco
