Which Pain?
Which Pain?
Training Is Hard, But So is Life
No pain no gain right?
This is the immortal training mentality that has been around for years and won't seem to go away.
And it won't go away because there is some truth to it.
Years ago, when I trained like I was obsessed, I would do leg sessions that left me struggling to sit on the toilet for a full week.
My legs would usually feel better a few hours before I did it all again.
At the time, that was my life.
But walking around now like I just rode a horse for 3 days isn't my idea of fun anymore.
Even still, there are times during training when yes, we need to get into "the hurtbox"as I call it.
That place where your body hurts.
Maybe even your mind hurts.
And you have to make a decision.
Do I push on, or do I quit.
What I find is that training gives us this feeling in an almost visceral way.
It's sharp, abrupt, pointed.
For this reason, the decision is easier to make, one way or the other.
But life isn't so clear.
And in life, we also have pain.
Mostly emotional and spiritual, but sometimes physical as well.
How do we deal with this pain?
How do we make the decision easier for ourselves if we should quit or not?
Well, I found the answer through training.
I helped deal with pain by choosing pain.
Not a lot of it - I wasn't planning on doing crazy workouts to become Mr. Universe.
But it was daily and consistent.
And you can do the same.
Bear the pain you have, as it slowly wears you down.
The pain we all have from the trauma life deals us.
Or choose to heal yourself.
It sounds crazy, but training can do that for us, because it's positive action.
It's sacrificing something for something better.
It's making an effort to make life better.
And whenever we truly face the pain we're dealing with, we always come out the other side better for it.
Until next time,
Marco
