Where Is the Challenge In Your Life?
Here are a list of things I bet you're competent at:
waking up
eating breakfast
buying coffee
getting to work (either driving, public transport, walking etc)
checking your emails
doing your job
eating your lunch
leaving work
getting home
eating your dinner
watching tv
going to bed
There are variations to this, including taking the kids to school or similar, picking up the kids, getting the kids ready for bed etc.
The question is, where is the Challenge?
Yes, timing everything is difficult, getting your work done on time can be challenging, keeping a social life going can be challenging. But these are all about prioritising and time management (often). They don't push you overly outside your comfort zone.
Where is the suck? Where is that thing that pushes you to quit, makes you uncomfortable?
One of the (most overstated and over-marketed) benefits of training is looking good.
But what about the benefit of it being that one thing each day where you have to grit and persevere and feel uncomfortable. The benefit of being a true challenge, often, just to get the motivation to turn up, let alone forget everything, be in the moment and push yourself to get outside your comfort zone.
Yes, it helps us look good. But train hard and eat well for a few months to a few years and you'll probably look pretty good. I'm not going to claim that because I'm a coach I have a secret no one else in the industry has in regards to getting lean and looking great. That, once again, is people over marketing something that at it's basic principles is pretty simple.
What I will claim however is that I try to teach clients about all the extra lessons we can learn from our training. Like challenging ourselves just that little bit each day, and how that can help us to challenge ourselves in other areas of life as well. And about how this challenge is what each of us needs to ensure we're not just floating through life, stuck looking at screens, wishing for a better life.
