Why Training is the Foundation of Your Life

Training, I believe, is the foundation for everything else in life.

Nutrition has a massive effect on how we look.

Our mindset has the biggest effect on how far we will go, or at the very least, how happy we are.

But training is the foundation because it is measurable. Being and looking stronger is measurable.

Training is the foundation, because despite our monkey brain running rampant day and night causing us some form of anxiety, we're still animals, and we still need to move. We were born to move.

When's there's nothing left, if you ever lose it all, having a body that has been shaped and molded and can move well is the sign of a strong person. A strong mind is often born from this strong foundation.

And even if there was no physical change in how you looked, the clarity and positivity that comes from setting aside time to work on yourself, to improve who you are in some way, would still make all the difference to your life.

I've always said that the best way to change the mind is to change the body.

When people report back to me saying how much they enjoyed a session where my aim was to really challenge them, I know they're on the right track with all of this.

Once upon a time we didn't have to train. Once upon a time we needed to do physical labour as our work, once upon a time hunted and gathered.

So now, we have to train.

I use the word train in a very general sense. We simply need to move with purpose. Maybe it's the gym, maybe its mixed martial arts, maybe its football or basketball or surfing. But physical movement is the basis for everyone else.

When clients tell me they're anxious or stressed, or tell me their problems, I listen, I may or may not give my take on it, but at the end of it all I say "okay, enough talk now, lift".

I'm not insensitive, I just know if they focus on the session they will feel much better than otherwise.

This is what training does for us.

As a basis to your life, you should be training. How often? I keep it simple: everyday. Just walk, run, lift, swim whatever. Just do it each day.

I won't promise you that you won't get stressed or anxious at some point in your life, but I will guarantee you'll be able to deal with it better than you would if you didn't do anything.
