Does the Gym Environment Intimidate You?

The Best Way to Overcome That Feeling to Achieve the Results You Want.

It can be an intimidating experience walking into a new gym, especially if you've never trained before.

With the music pumping, the guys lifting big weights and the girls crushing it too, it can feel very foreign.

When I started training more than 13 years ago, I also felt this way. I was lucky though; I had two ways to overcome this.

Firstly, I trained with my younger brother. So now at least there were two fools in the gym, and I knew the other well.

Secondly, my pain was stronger than the discomfort I felt from the gym environment. I'd let my own shit get to the point where I was forced to do something about it, whether I looked like an idiot doing it or not.

Fast forward to today, and I'm pretty comfortable in any gym environment, even if I'm not an athlete or one of the big boys.

As a coach, I've seen that discomfort many times from prospects and new clients.

I've had people cancel after signing a contract, saying "the gym doesn't suit our style".

I've had people use the words "gyms intimidate me".

From my experience, please know that the benefits you'll get from training will outweigh that intimidation. Like any skill or practice we take on, it just requires exposure and time.

But also know that the gym isn't the only place to train. You can do bootcamps outside, you can train at home.

You can start simple, you can start small.

But ultimately, the best equipment, and often the best environment to train is at a gym or box, or fitness facility (or whatever other names people want to give for a place you go train).

So, we have dilemma: gyms are pretty intimidating places to start with, but are also one stop shops for getting the results you really want. What should you do?

As a coach, it's my job to help people feel less intimidated, in a way protecting them from the noise and "fitness" bullshit that comes along with all of this. In fact in ancient Rome, a client was someone under the protection of a nobleman (let's just pretend I'm a nobleman...it sounds cool!).

My job it to teach, guide and empower.

I genuinely want people to one day leave PEAK and be able to train, on their own, in any gym in the world, and get results.

I want them to have the experience I have through consistency and discipline with their training and health, and to feel the benefits I feel from all of this.

I understand not everyone can afford a coach, but you should try your best to have a coach.

Because while you might feel intimidated or out of your comfort zone, a great coach will guide you achieve results, teach you how to do it, and empower you to do it yourself one day.

And you'll look back on when you started and be amazed you ever let that feeling of discomfort and intimidation hold you back from a strong and healthy life.
