New Year's Resolutions
New Year's Resolutions
When Does a New Year's Resolution Become Incomplete?
When do you stop saying "Happy New Year" to people?
Is it two weeks into the year? Or maybe at the end of January? Surely saying it in February is just weird?
I'm actually asking because I've thought about this before, and since I'm a bit socially awkward, I'd like to get this right.
So feel free to comment below!
But this also got me thinking about New Year's Resolutions.
What is a New Year's Resolution? Is it a goal you start in the new year? Is it a goal for the year?
Again, I'm not exactly sure, but here's what I think (because I know you're so desperate to know what I think).
A New Year's Resolution is a goal you start in the new year, but to add to that, I believe it's a goal with a 12 month timeline.
This last point is something that isn't discussed enough.
Many New Year's Resolutions are stopped after 4 to 8 weeks. But why can't we pick them back up again? You still have close to 10 months to be successful with them.
So when the inevitable drop off comes during the year, don't quit, just start again. And keep starting, because you have a year to get on top of whatever it is you felt important enough to make a New Year's Resolution in the first place.
Better still, instead of just making up a goal, be clear with it. Define how you'll measure progress and make it a priority.
Until next time,
Marco
