On the Hook
On the Hook
Commit to Yourself and Others
Getting fit and healthy is quite the difficult process.
I think it's one of the most difficult things in life you can do, because life is so busy and hectic, it requires time, consistency, focus and effort, and it's just hard work.
So often people start this process with good intentions, only to quit part way through.
I've done the same with many things in life.
Some big, some small, but each of them was something I could definitely have kept going and finished, if only I truly committed to the process.
And commitment is the key.
Commitment to yourself, to do what needs to be done no matter what.
We're good at letting ourselves off the hook though.
We give ourselves all the excuses.
We're great at justifying why we can't do something to ourselves.
And then feel equal quantities of relief and disappointment when we quit.
We need to put ourselves on the hook instead.
A declaration and commitment to ourselves.
And taking it even further if we need to.
Making a public declaration to those we know, in real life and social media.
"I'm committing to do this for my health".
And now, we're on the hook.
Now we feel obligated to do the thing we need to do.
Instead of shying away from the commitment and hard work, we embrace it.
We embrace the difficulty.
We embrace the consistency required from ourselves to get it done.
And at the end, we can celebrate our success and the difficult and brave task of putting ourselves on the hook.
Until next time,
Marco
