When You Talk To Yourself, Who Is Listening?
When You Talk To Yourself, Who Is Listening?
Fit In or Stand Out
When you talk to yourself, who is listening?
We all have that voice in our head that has a conversation with us.
As if we're somehow another person.
It's like there are two sides to each of us.
And on any given day, one side might be stronger than the other.
Are the words and statements you're making true?
Are they helping you?
And if not, should you even be listening?
What I believe...
There is a side to us who wants to break free.
A side who seeks to stand out and make a difference.
A side that knows exactly that you could have more, in anything really, if you just put away the excuses and took a chance.
And then there's another side to us, who is scared.
Scared and lonely.
It just needs attention, but doesn't want to stand out, because we've been hard wired not to stand out.
Standing out got you kicked out of the tribe.
And the "factory workers" of the last 200 years weren't allowed to stand out, because it didn't fit the systems and processes.
But now, not standing out hurts.
Sometimes, it just takes one action to prove to yourself that standing out, and doing what you want, won't get you kicked out.
And it won't lead to failure.
Well no failure that is significant.
And once you've taken that action, take another and repeat.
When I coach clients, I coach them to stand out.
Firstly, this isn't for everyone.
Secondly, it's not designed for everyone, it's designed for you.
Your goals, your needs.
It turns out that not doing what everyone else does gives you a good chance to stand out.
So maybe start listening to the part of you who wants to stand out.
Until next time,
Marco
