Delay Gratification!
How the Ease of Everything is Making Your Life Harder
I sometimes marvel at how we've created so much technology in such a short time.
I remember back at University, I bought my first phone in my 3rd or 4th year. It was a simple Sony; no touch screens were common back then. And now 15 years or so on, I have a small computer in my pocket.
The phone is so quick, easy to use, and I can find basically any information I might want on it. Once upon a time we had to hop on boats and explore things if we wanted to know about plenty of the facts of the world.
But, like with everything in life, there are downsides. I have too much access to everything, to the point where I sometimes waste time on my phone looking at nothing really.
And so, we've extended this access and desire for everything now, to the rest of our lives.
Streaming, wifi controlled lights, microwaves. All of them provide almost instant access to what we want.
Our health, doesn't escape.
Now we can buy supplements of every kind. You can even buy fit teas; a tea drink which apparently burns fat.
And to think, that once upon a time, you had to train hard and eat well to get results from your training and be healthy. We were idiots!
The desire for the latest hack and information is keeping us from doing what we need to do to be healthy; train hard and eat well consistently and for a long period of time.
Sounds like hard work right?
The saying of "sounds too good to be true" needs to be applied to almost everything to do with our health.
Instead of thinking 12 weeks, think 12 months for results. And when you reach 12 months, think another 24 months. This doesn't mean you can't achieve amazing things in 12 weeks, but even still, you need to work hard to maintain those results.
It can be very easy to be drawn to the quick solution. We can find quick solutions to almost everything else in our life.
The only problem with our health, is that it's a lifelong problem.
So maybe the quick fix solution isn't the answer.
Until next time,
Marco
