Genetics Are Real
Genetics Are Real
Health is a Game of Effort
One side of the argument says "you can't achieve goals like this, because you don't have the genetics".
The other side of the argument says "genetics is just a cop out and excuse for not putting in hard work".
In my mind, there is validity to both sides of the argument.
When we look at the very top of the fitness and sporting world, many of these athletes are genetically gifted.
They got dealt the right cards in life when it came to their chosen field.
But this doesn't mean these athletes don't work hard or get an easy ride.
No, it just means given the equal amount of work than you and me, they're probably going to be leaner or dunk that ball better.
The truth is, genetics are real.
They will definitely have an impact on your results.
But they're not the biggest impact.
That comes from consistency, effort, attitude, intent.
All skills which we can develop, genetically gifted or not.
No, not all of us can play in the NBA, because truthfully, we just may not be tall enough.
But that is obvious when you compare to the very pinnacle of something.
What about playing competitively?
What about being the healthiest and leanest and strongest you can be?
That has nothing to do with genetics.
And so, when we compare ourselves to the very elite in any given field, yes, genetics matter.
But when we compare ourselves to the very best we could be, it's just another excuse we're using to not put in the work.
When it comes to your health, it's all about learning skills which you can apply for the rest of your life.
And that has nothing to do with genetics.
Until next time,
Marco
