Separate the Process from the Outcome
Separate the Process from the Outcome
You Haven't Achieved Your Goals - Yet
One of the common things we as coaches do with new clients is set clear goals with them.
Goals, after all are the reason most people train.
The more clear the goal, the more likely of success.
But along the way, all kinds of things can happen.
Sickness, work, even just general fatigue in pursuit of the goal.
And suddenly the goal seems further away, or progress simply stalls.
What we forget to discuss with clients, is the process required to achieve the results.
Because often, the process is the same no matter what.
In fact, the process are the habits and skills which will set clients up for a lifetime.
So even if they don't achieve their goal as initially planned, they can still focus on the process, and repeat over and over.
For your own journey, the focus needs to be on the process.
The goal is almost a set and forget thing.
Of course, it's there in the back of our minds, pointing us in the direction we need to go.
But setting a goal, no matter how clear, does mean we'll achieve the goal.
No, it's the steps and process that lead to the goal.
And so we need to separate the process from the outcome.
And relentlessly show up and follow the process.
Day in, day out, or as often as we can.
And if the outcome takes a little longer to reach?
So be it.
But at least we have a process which we can use for all other areas of our life.
Until next time,
Marco
