The Edges of the Lawn
The Edges of the Lawn
Why Everyone Should Follow Their Own Training Program
Have you ever noticed a lawn that has been newly cut, but doesn't have the edges done?
Sure, it looks okay, but it just doesn't look complete.
Like someone has done half a job, leaving the most important half for some reason.
You see, the edges complete the job and make everything look tidy and finished.
The edges are what makes it pleasing to the eye.
Sure, if you did the edges and didn't do the main sections it would look messy too.
But it's amazing how that small section on the edge, a fraction of the entire area of the lawn, is what makes the job complete.
Your training is a lot like that.
The main section is what everyone should do.
These are the standard styles of training.
The common exercises or variations of those.
Even the things you would do with others in a group setting.
But it's the things you do on the edge which complete the job.
And those things on the edge are the exercises and styles and techniques which are unique to you.
Because while all of us are quite the same in what we need for training, it's important to also understand we're unique.
And it's the things that each of us needs to do as individuals that keeps us from getting the results we want.
All my clients get individual programs.
It's a commitment I've made - a constraint I've put on myself.
But that doesn't mean that each program is completely unique.
No, most of my clients do very similar things to each other.
But it's the differences, on the edge, which complete the job.
Sure, everyone might squat, but why would a 38 year old woman who has just started training, do the same program as a 27 year old man who is 5 years into his training experience?
Again, the programs aren't hugely different.
But the differences are needed.
You might be very happy to do the big group classes, and if that's what you enjoy, keep doing them.
But if you also want to get results and achieve your fitness goals, just remember to do you edges as well.
Until next time,
Marco
